Athletics

The purposes of such a program are:

  • To teach sportsmanship;
  • To overcome tendencies toward excessive competition;
  • To acquire ability and physical coordination;
  • To learn to keep rules;
  • To practice self-control.

St. Dorothy School participates in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) after school sports program.  We participate in volleyball, football, basketball, softball, soccer, track and field.

The school academic and conduct standard must be maintained in order to participate in the sports program.  School grades must be “C” or better and behavior grades must be “S” or better.  If grades are lower than a “C”  and/or “S”, or if the student receives two or more academic progress reports, and/or one progress report in behavior, the athlete will be placed on probation and not allowed to practice and/or play for two weeks. After two weeks the student will have a grade check form completed by all teachers and brought to the principal for approval. If the grades do improve after two weeks, the athlete will be taken off probation.  If the grades do not improve after two weeks, the athlete will be removed from the team.

A STUDENT MUST BE IN SCHOOL IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE ON A GIVEN DAY.  (See Absences and Attendance)

Bruin Athletics Code of Conduct – In the interest of sportsmanship and attitudes appropriate of student athletes involved in sports at a Catholic school, as outlined by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), the following Code of Conduct has been drawn up and must be adhered to.

To be a Bruin Athlete at St. Dorothy School, one MUST conduct himself/herself in a way that is becoming of a Christian, both on and off the field or court.  A Bruin Athlete MUST be caring, fair, and sportsmanlike at all times.  This attitude must be conveyed to teammates, coaches, opponents, and adults upon which they come in contact.   If at any time the Code of Conduct is not followed, disciplinary action(s) will be enforced.  If a child shows disrespect, either verbally or physically, it will result in a disciplinary action.  Disciplinary actions are as follows:

1st offense:   A written warning is given and a conference with the parent,
                       coach, athlete, Athletic Director and Principal to discuss the
                       problem and correct any wrong doing.
2nd offense:  The athlete will be removed from the team and faces the
                       possibility of not being able to try out for the next sport.

This is not meant to hinder the student athlete at St. Dorothy School from participating to their fullest ability, but rather a guide to keep the integrity of our sports program at the highest level and to teach the student athlete to respect the game, his/her coaches, and opponents.
