Girls’ Varsity Soccer Try-outs

All girls in grades 5-8 are invited to try-out for the girls’ soccer team next Wednesday and Thursday, February 8^th and 9^th.  Bring your cleats and shin guards.  Practice begins at 3:15 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.  The season begins the weekend of February 26^th.

Girls’ J.V. Basketball

The girls’ J.V. basketball team extended their winning streak to 5 straight victories with wins over St. Frances of Rome and Holy Name of Mary.  All of the girls joined in a strong team effort to defeat St. Frances of Rome 20-1 on Thursday, January 26^th.  The Lady Bruins played relentless defense and forced many turnovers.  Defensive pressure led to many steals and fast breaks.  Madison McCaffrey was high scorer for the Lady Bruins with 6 points.  Charlene Paguio and Melody Soto scored their first points of the season.  Charlene scored 4 points and Melody scored 2 points.   Katie Zampiello dribbled from one end of the court to the other in her first solo fast break. 

In their closest game of the year, St. Dorothy came from behind to defeat Holy Name of Mary on Tuesday, January 31^st.  Down 10-2 at half-time, the Lady Bruins outscored their opponents 14-0 in the second half to win the game 16-10.  It was a true team effort with well rounded scoring.  Elizabeth Chidester and Madison McCaffrey each scored 4 points.  Audrey Sellers, Sara Jewett, Kayleigh Quintero, and Julia Olivares all scored two points in the victorious effort.

The Lady Bruins are 5 wins and 0 losses in league play.  They can clinch the league championship with a win over St. Frances of Rome next week.  Good luck girls!

Boys’ J.V. Basketball

The boys’ J.V. basketball team extended their winning streak to 3 straight victories with wins over Holy Name of Mary, St. Louise, and OLA.  This was a big turn-around from last week in which we reported 3 straight losses to the same 3 teams.  Great improvement Bruins!

2012 Mighty Mites Basketball Tournament

on Saturday, March 17th 

St. Dorothy Mighty Mites basketball team will be open to all 3^rd and 4^th grade boys and girls.  The team will play in the annual Mighty Mite Basketball Tournament at St. Louise School on Saturday, March 17th, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.  It is a wonderful experience for the kids and a fun introduction to the game of basketball.

We need parents to volunteer to coach this great group of young athletes.  Your sports program at St. Dorothy depends on parents for coaching!

Girls’ Varsity Basketball

The girls’ varsity basketball team won their rematch with Holy Name of Mary in another close game.  
The Lady Bruins improved greatly in controlling their turnovers which gave the team more chances to score.  
St. Dorothy put up 43 shot attempts to Holy Names’ 21 shot attempts.  Great game girls!

Boys’ Varsity Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team won their second game of the season with a big win over Pomona Catholic.  The game was close in the first quarter but the Bruins pulled away in the second quarter and continued to lengthen their lead.  The Bruins are 2 wins and 3 losses in league play.
