St. Dorothy 21st Annual Golf Tournament:

The St. Dorothy 21st Annual Golf Tournament was a great success as 90 happy golfers enjoyed the challenging hill course of Sierra La Verne Country Club this past Monday, May 13.  The weather was warm this year, (in the 90’s!), but a nice breeze and plenty of drinks on the course kept the golfers comfortable as they competed for the 2013 championship.

The foursome of Kevin Gore, Phil Zampiello, Jim Martin, and Lee Strollo won the tournament this year with a low score of 58 in the “Play the Best Ball” format.  The team of three St. Dorothy alumnus from the class of 1986 (Phil Zampiello, Jim Martin, and Lee Strollo) combined with St. Dorothy dad, Kevin Gore, to edge out 2nd place by 1 stroke.   Kevin Gore is the dad of Liam (1st grade) and Phil Zampiello is the dad of Katie (6th grade).  The group was inspired to win this year in memory of Jim Martin Sr., Bernie Martin’s husband, who always enjoyed playing on the Sierra La Verne course.  Congratulations!

Two teams tied for 2nd place with a very competitive score of 59.  Hoss Hammond, Dan Courtright, Tom Thiel, and Jay Swindler teamed up for a 59 which matched the score of the AQMD team of Phil Hubbard, Randy Matsuyama, Frank Kawashima, and Pete Krebs.  Fine bottles of wine were the prizes for the top 3 teams.

The winner of the putting contest was Liem Do, one of many participants from the AQMD.  Dan Courtright won the contest for the straightest drive.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make the tournament a success, especially Allen Reinl and Tina Gonzales who oversaw the Sports Booster committee which put on the tournament.

If you missed out this year, we hope to see you at the tournament next year!
