CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK IS JANUARY 29 TO FEBRUARY 3
February 1 – Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day
February 2 – Students Appreciation Day – Non-Uniform Dress for all students!
February 3 – Religious and Volunteer Appreciation Day
Thursday, February 2 is Students Appreciation Day. Parents should send LETTERS OR CARDS ONLY to the office for your child, letting them know how much you love and appreciate them. Please do not send flowers, candy, or gifts as they will not be passed out during school. Gifts may be given out at home after school. Please remember to send a note. The children are disappointed when they do not receive a note from their parents. Teachers try to write a note for these students; however, it is not the same as a special note from mom or dad.
Friday, February 3 at the 8:30 a.m. Liturgy we will honor our parish religious, Fr. John, and Fr. Mike. We will also honor parent volunteers who do over and above the required 40 hours of service and ask that you join us at the Liturgy. We will have refreshments right after the Liturgy in the faculty lounge. If you are a volunteer who will attend the liturgy, please fill out the form at the end of the letter or call the office to let us know.

We are going to have a Virtus Training Class Monday, February 13, 2012, promptly at 6:00 p.m. in Room 8 and Wednesday, February 15, 2012 promptly at 9:00 a.m. in Room 8. You will not be admitted if you are late. There will be sign up sheets in the school office.
I would like to thank Mr. John Catalano for training our parents. He is so generous in giving his time to help St. Dorothy School at this time. I would also like to thank Mrs. Bernie Martin for assisting John.
The parents who have already had the VIRTUS Training need to go through a recertification training which will be one hour. I am going to schedule some dates for recertification too.
If you went to the Virtus Training classes on January 9th or 17th, please bring to the school office your Virtus Certificate so that we can make a copy for our records. I have copies of the certificates from the parents who attended the Wednesday, January 25, morning class.
All parents must also STILL be fingerprinted too! If you are charged a fee for fingerprinting, you will receive 3 volunteer hours for the $53.00 fingerprinting fee.

DID YOU KNOW? Child protection efforts extend to coaches
The Catholic Youth Organization/Department of Catholic Schools coaches’ training program implemented in 2005 was created to insure the safety and wellbeing of elementary school children, and coaches, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Its two-hour training session covering child protection laws and procedures as well as character and safety training is mandatory for archdiocesan paid and volunteer coaches. All of the 4,500 coaches affiliated with 216 Catholic elementary schools are expected to attend the training. In order to attend training, participants must submit verification of Life scan fingerprinting. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.
