SUMMER MESSAGE

The faculty, staff, and I wish all of you a wonderful summer vacation.  Please take time to relax and enjoy quality time with your families.  Please do your best to stay healthy and safe.  Remember that you MUST attend mass on Sundays even when you are on vacation. Please continue to keep God in your life during these summer months.  He will help you to get the most out of your summer vacation!  Try to keep the children on some kind of routine where they do some academic work each day.  The amount of time should be age appropriate.  This is important so that the children do not get bored and they maintain all of their skills.  It will be of great value if they practice their handwriting, manuscript for the lower grades, cursive writing for the upper grades.  Also, practice writing paragraphs and stories.  Most important is that the children READ, READ, AND READ some more.  The children entering Grade Three through Eighth Grade have summer reading assignments due when they begin school August 29th.  Their assignments are on our website and they were given a hard copy of their assignment.  With God’s Blessings, we will see you Monday, August 29, 2011 for the first day of school for the school year 2011-2012.

KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION

Kindergarten children graduated last Wednesday.  They did a marvelous job with the Scripture Readings for the Liturgy on Wednesday, June 8th.  They did a great job singing for their graduation program.  I thank Mrs. Nicole Kent, Ms. Stephanie Carrano, and Mrs. Neri Barretta for all their hard work this year preparing the students for Grade One and for preparing them for the graduation exercises.  I thank the Kindergarten Room Parent, Niki Soto and all the parents who helped with the decorations and other activities that went along with Kindergarten and the Graduation Program.  I thank Chelsea Kent for doing a fantastic job with the slide show.  We wish all of the Kindergarten families a wonderful summer vacation.

EIGHTH GRADE GRADUATION CLASS OF 2011

The Eighth Grade Graduation Exercises were beautiful.  Thank you to Ms. Sweetman and Mrs. Vinski for all the hard work and effort that goes into preparing the students and getting ready for this special event.  I would like to thank the Seventh Grade Room Parents, Christina Provenzano and Lisa Cowan, who raised money, planned, and coordinated the Eighth Grade Brunch.  Thank you to all the Seventh Grade parents who also helped with decorations and other jobs associated with the festivities.  I thank you Ms. Sweetman for preparing the graduates so well for graduation and high school.  At the Brunch, we had a delicious meal prepared by Don and Lana Hiti and a great slide show prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Zumel.  The students had a dance after the brunch.  The graduates looked so grown up in their caps and gowns and are now on their way to high school.  We wish them Best Wishes and Success with their future endeavors.  The days were filled with wonderful activities.

DID YOU KNOW     Abuse Prevention Program Tops 100,000 Trained
Did you know that every person working with children and youth in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is mandated to attend VIRTUS training? The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has trained over 100,000 adults in the VIRTUS program. Initiated in 1997, the VIRTUS program is designed to prevent child sexual abuse by making adults aware of sexual abuse perpetuated by adults as well as other children. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse:
• Knowing the warning signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child.
• Controlling access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth.
• Monitoring all programs for the safety of children and youth.
• Being aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of the children.
• Communicating concerns to the appropriate persons.
For more information, please call the Archdiocesan Safeguard the Children office: (213) 637-7227.
