ST. DOROTHY SCHOOL ENDOWMENT DINNER DANCE

The Dinner-Dance is on Saturday, October 23rd at the Glendora Country Club.  Please mark your calendar for an enjoyable evening filled with fun and prizes. Stop by the office to see the adorable Halloween quilt that you may bid on!  There will be the music entertainment that evening by D.J. Al Huerta for your dancing and listening pleasure. The money raised helps our Endowment Fund grow so that “A Catholic Education is Affordable” now and for the future!

It is mandatory for each family to donate $100.00. Remember that $75.00 of this donation may be used for one ticket for a member of your family only to the dinner dance. Please return your invitation with a RSVP if you are planning to attend the dinner dance with this ticket.   If you RSVP before Friday, October 15, your child will receive a “non-uniform” Dress Pass.  We would love to see 100% at the dinner dance.  Please join us for a fun evening and a wonderful dinner.  Remember that the Endowment contributes $40,000.00 each year to our school budget.

ENDOWMENT TUITION RAFFLE – YOUR ODDS OF WINNING ARE REALLY GOOD!

The Endowment will be having a raffle for one year tuition, $4,350.00.  This does not include the registration, academic, or art fees.  Each ticket costs $25.00.  You may purchase the tickets from the school office.  You will be given a receipt which is numbered as the tickets are sold.  We need to sell 200 tickets in order to be able to have this raffle.  If we do not sell at least 200 tickets, we will not have the raffle and all monies will be returned to the buyers.

ENDOWMENT VOLUNTEER HOURS:  Parents who donate gift cards, dinner dance tickets for priests, teachers, or staff, or any other items will receive volunteer hours for these donations.  Remember $15.00 equals 1 hour.

HOMELESS SHELTER - Earn your school hours!

The St. Dorothy Homeless Shelter is scheduled to operate from December 17, 2010 through January 2, 2011.  The Clothing Boutique is looking for donations of new and unused packages of socks and underwear.  We are asking each student to donate one package of each item.  There is a box inside of each classroom for you to place these items.  Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute these items to the homeless. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Dean or Gina Butz at (626) 914-9172.   Earn your school hours by your contributions and your working hours.  Donations are requested according to the following plan:

  1. 1.      Grades K through 1st         children sizes
  2. 2.      Grades 2 through 4th         women sizes
  3. 3.      Grade 5 through 8th            men’s sizes

OAK TREE FESTIVAL CHAIRPERSON(S)

We are in need of an Oak Tree Festival Chairperson(s).  If someone does not volunteer, we might not have a Festival.  Remember, the school has received $30,000.00 the past two years from the festival.  We have many talented parents who would do a great job as chairperson.  PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS.  If you have any questions, please contact me at school.

PRAYERS

We especially ask that you continue to pray for Steve Measer.  We pray that Steve continues to get better and overcomes all his medical obstacles.

DID YOU KNOW?   Tips For a Happy & Safe Halloween                                                            To help ensure that Halloween is a fun and exciting time for children, it is good to review a few common sense safety tips:

  1. Parents shouldn’t allow their children to eat or sample any candy before it’s checked. Throw away all unwrapped candy, popcorn and caramel apples unless they come from a trusted source.
  2. Parents should accompany young children or groups of children when trick-or-treating.
  3. Walk with friends and stay together.
  4. Stay in your own neighborhood or familiar areas, and only visit homes with lit porch lights.

For more tips, please visit: http://www.cvshealthresources.com/topic/halloween.  For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at 213 637 7650.

POWERLINE TESTING

Mr. Olson will be on campus for Powerline Testing Monday, October 18th.  If your child is having difficulty with reading and you would like to have him/her tested, please notify the school office.  The cost for testing is $85.00.  Please see Ms. Dalton or Mrs. Burke for further information.

PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF TRAFFIC

It would really help a great deal if you placed your family name signs in your car window when picking up your child in the traffic line.  This sign is especially needed with rainy day pick-up.  Mrs. Jurecki is working on making every family a new sign for this year.  Until the new signs are done, please use your old sign or if you are a new family, make a temporary one for now.

I am again asking you not to park outside the barriers for morning drop-off and for afternoon pick-up.  THIS IS NOT ALLOWED!  If you are going to church or you have business in the school office, you may drop your child off and then park outside the barriers.  NO STUDENTS SHOULD BE WALKING TO CLASS FROM BEHIND THE BARRIERS EXCEPT THE CHILDREN OF TEACHERS AND AIDES WHO WORK AT THE SCHOOL.

MEMORIAL

Red Devil Pizza will hold a Memorial Fund between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. today for Jesse Cruz.  Red Devil Pizza is at 116 W. Badillo in Covina.  Just mention Jesse’s name and the money will go to this memorial fund.  Jesse died from a wrestling injury and he is the cousin of Melody Soto, Grade 4, Cyrus Soto, Kindergarten, and Max Soto, Grade 5.
