BIG NEWS – YOU CAN NOW ORDER GREAT LAKES SCRIP ONLINE

We are introducing Great Lakes ShopWithScrip.com.   This is a new program offered by Great Lakes which allows you to order and purchase your Great Lakes scrip cards online and pick them up on Fridays by 2:00 p.m..  To place an order you must establish a Great Lakes Family account and link it to St. Dorothy School with an enrollment code obtained from the school office.  Pick up the purple business card with the code number and the detailed directions sheet. 

 

You must also register your DEBIT CARD with Presto Pay in order to use ShopWithScrip.   You CANNOT pay with a check or credit card.  Payment is through a DEBIT CARD only.   If you wish to write a check or pay with cash, you may turn in the purple sheet before 9:00 a.m. Monday mornings as usual.  Tell your family, friends and co-workers about this new program!  It will help you fulfill your scrip commitment for the year.

 

FRESH & EASY “SHOPPING NIGHT EVENT” WAS A HIT!

Our ”Shopping Night Event” last Thursday, October 13th was successful with many families stopping by for groceries.   The school staff was busy bagging groceries and assisting customers.  We earned $127 just from the collection of receipts.  We are waiting for the final total from our 5% of sales.  Please continue to save your receipts and bring them to the school.   From September 15th though

December 31st, Fresh & Easy will give a $1 cash donation for every $20 spent in one transaction. 

 

ST. DOROTHY GOES HOLLYWOOD THIS SATURDAY – Don’t miss it!

The Endowment Dinner Dance is Saturday, October 22nd.  The Endowment Committee is rolling out the red carpet for you (literally). Please join us for a night of dinner and dance at the Glendora Country Club.  Remember to buy your Free Tuition Raffle Tickets.  Also, remember to turn in your RSVP card.  Your child will have Non-Uniform Dress on Tuesday, November 8th if you attend the Endowment Dinner Dance. 

 

PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK FOR 2011-2012 – ONLINE FORM IS PAST DUE

The new Handbook is available on our school website. Please complete the online form to download the Handbook.  You must sign and submit the Parent/Student Policies Agreement Form verifying that you and your child/ren read the handbook and understand all of the policies.  This form will appear as a link after you push the SUBMIT button.    In the near future, we will be publishing names of families who have not submitted this form.

 

P.T.O. GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH

Last school year you were given a survey on how you felt about extended the school year by twenty more days.  On the surveys were several other questions.  Mr. Bill Hogan was kind enough to tally the answers for me.  On Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall, we will have a meeting and I will go over the results of the survey.  Mrs. Dorothy Marquez, computer teacher and Ms. Jean Dalton will give a short presentation on the Computer and Music curriculum.  Mrs. Becky Sakovitch, our art teacher, will discuss the art program and show a few samples of the amazing work our students have done.  This should be a very informative meeting.  PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!

 

SHORT CONTEST - AVERY DENNISON/BOX TOPS – ENDS OCTOBER 25

This contest ends October 25.  Five schools will win 100,000 Box Tops equaling $10,000.  To enter by mail send a postcard with name, address, email address and school name to Avery Dennison/ Consumer Products, 50 Points Drive, Brea, CA 92821, Attn: Social Media Team.  Or enter via Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/Avery, click “Like” and then click on “Enter For A Chance To Win” button to register for the contest.  Please designate our school.  Only one entry per person allowed.

 

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL - MONDAY OCTOBER 31

Beware!  Ghosts and goblins will soon appear!  Our annual eighth grade Halloween Carnival is almost here.  The Carnival is open to all family members – do not forget your costume.  The fun begins at lunch time.  Activity bracelets are needed for all the various games.  Purchase a game bracelet and lunch for only $10 for the best deal.  See the enclosed order form.

 

Children may wear their costumes to school but they should not be too scary, gory or revealing.  Masks and weapons are not allowed.  Remember it is early dismissal (2:00 p.m. for all grades) and that the children will be wearing the costume all day, so they should wear something that will allow them to move freely and enjoy the games.

 

Donations are gratefully accepted for hot dogs, buns, individual bags of chips, water, plates, napkins, individually wrapped baked goods and syrup for shaved ice.  You will receive hours for your donation.

 

P.T.O. NEWS – TICKET STUBS AND MONEY ARE DUE NEXT WEEK

The tickets are $20 each.  The money and ticket stubs are due back by October 27.

 

“Parents Night Out” Shopping Boutique

We are looking for vendors for our “Parents Night Out” Shopping Boutique” on Friday,

December 9th.  Vendor space is $25 per table.  If interested, please contact the office or Mrs. Sorensen.

 

ST. DOROTHY HOMELESS SHELTER – PLEASE HELP

The Homeless Shelter will run from December 16th to January 1st.  The Clothing Boutique is now collecting new socks and underwear for the homeless guests.  Please donate according to the chart below:

 

Grades K-2: Women’s socks and underwear (Large and X-Large only)

Grades 3-4: Men’s socks and Men’s small/medium underwear

Grades 5-8: Men’s socks and Men’s Large/X-Large underwear

 

SCHOOL PICTURES MAKE-UP DAY IS NOVEMBER 2

If you forgot to order or your child was absent on picture day, our make-up day will be Wednesday, November 2.

 

PRAYERS

We especially ask that you continue to pray for Steve Measer.  We pray that Steve continues to feel well and thank God for Steve’s return to work.

 

Please pray for Mrs. Merrie Noel Denton as she receives her treatments.  Please pray that her treatments are successful and she is soon free of cancer.

 

Please pray for Mr. Tom Lane as he continues to receive radiation treatment for his cancer.  Pray that his treatment is successful.

 

Please pray for Mr. Joseph Gallardo, father of three alumni daughters.  Mr. Gallardo is recovering from cancer surgery and will be undergoing treatment for the cancer.

 

BIRTHDAY BANNER TECHNOLOGY FUNDRAISER FOR STUDENTS 

Orders for a Birthday Banner must be placed 2 weeks in advanceAll orders placed BY October 31 will be sold at the reduced price of $10.  All orders AFTER October 31 will cost $12.  

 

 

LUNCH PROGRAM - MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO “CANYON CITY FOODS”

Lunches are $3.50 each.  Place your cash or check made out to “Canyon City Foods”.  Place your envelopes in the box on the school office counter or put them in an envelope with your child’s name and grade on it and place it in your family envelope.  The school office cannot make change for lunch.  If you need change back, please specify that on your envelope.  Otherwise, a credit will be recorded for your child.

ALBERTSON’S AND BONUS BOX TOPS –BRING IN THE CODES

Albertson’s offers bonus Box Tops for Education when you purchase select items.  The bonus Box Tops code will print out along with your grocery receipt.  You can enter the code number yourself by going to the website listed or you can drop off the tickets in the office and we will enter the codes for you.

3.      FUNDING FACTORY RECYCLING – This program accepts CELL PHONES and USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES ONLY for recycling.  NO TONER TANKS ARE ACCEPTED!  Our school receives points for working cell phones and printer cartridges.
