On the invitations it stated “Cash Bar Only.”  Glendora Country Club is NO LONGER a Cash Bar Only.”  Credit Cards are now accepted!

LAST CHANCE!!!    ENDOWMENT TUITION RAFFLE – YOUR ODDS OF WINNING ARE GREAT!

The Endowment will be having a raffle for one year tuition, $4,350.00 for 2011-12.   Eighth grade ONLY may enter the raffle for the balance of this year’s tuition.  This does not include the registration, academic, or art fees.  Each ticket costs $25.00.  You may purchase the tickets from the school office.  You will be given a receipt which is numbered as the tickets are sold.  We need to sell 200 tickets in order to be able to have this raffle.  If we do not sell at least 200 tickets, we will not have the raffle and all monies will be returned to the buyers.  You do not have to be present to win.

 The Non-Uniform Dress Day for families who turned in their RSVP on time has changed.  The new date is Monday, November 1^st.

PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION – MANIA FOOTBALL MONEY DUE

Your Mania tickets are due back by Friday, October 22^nd with a check for $200.00.

BARTOLO SCHOOL PICTURE MAKE UP DAY – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21

School pictures will be taken for students who were absent on September 20.  If you did not purchase a package, you may still order one by turning in your money and order form before 10:30 a.m.  Your child’s picture will be taken again if you place an order.

BUCK-A-JEANS & PINK SHIRT FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS – OCT. 21

Student Council is sponsoring a Buck-a-Jeans Day this Thursday.  Students may also wear a pink, red or white shirt in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Please bring in $1 for each event you are supporting.

RED RIBBON WEEK ACTIVITIES OCTOBER 25 THROUGH 28

The Student Council has planned exciting events for Red Ribbon Week:

Monday, October 25 – Show your Red Spirit!

            Wear a red shirt with your jeans and tennis shoes.

THE SPAGHETTI DINNER WAS A HIT!

I would like to thank the technology committee, especially Mrs. Lana Hiti, for coordinating the Spaghetti Dinner.  Special thanks to our chef, Mr. Bob Betros for the delicious pasta and sauces. We made $1,200.00 profit.

PARENT HANDBOOK-CALENDAR FORM IS PAST DUE

HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION NIGHT

High School Information Night went well.  I hope that it was an informative night for our junior high students and parents.  I would like to thank Mrs. Measer and our Student Council for all of their help.  I received many compliments on how very nice and helpful our Student Council members were.  Thank you to Mrs. Donna O’Mahony, Clare, and Clare’s brother for the cookies and water.

HOMELESS SHELTER - Earn your school hours!

The St. Dorothy Homeless Shelter will operate from December 17, 2010 through January 2, 2011.  The Clothing Boutique is looking for donations of new and unused packages of socks and underwear.  We are asking each student to donate one package of each item.  There is a box in the classrooms for these items.  Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute these items to the homeless. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Dean or Gina Butz at (626) 914-9172.   Earn your school hours by your contributions and your working hours.  Donations are requested according to the following plan:

1.    Grades K through 1^st         children sizes

2.    Grades 2 through 4^th         women sizes

3.    Grade 5 through 8^th            men’s sizes

DID YOU KNOW?  Tips For a Happy & Safe Halloween – II                                      To help ensure that Halloween is a fun and exciting time for children, here are a few more common sense safety tips:   

1. Children should wear light-colored clothing that’s short enough to prevent tripping. Parents also may want to add reflective tape to the costume.
2. Buy Halloween that feature a flame-resistant or flame-retardant label.
3. Use sidewalks when available and begin trick-or-treating before sunset.
4. Each child should carry a flashlight or glow stick.

WEEKLY MASS

Please be sure that you attend Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday morning/evening with your child/ren.  We teach the children that it is a mortal sin if they do not attend mass each week without a valid excuse.  If you do not bring your child/ren to mass, it is your mortal sin not the child/ren’s mortal sin.  This is your obligation.  God does not ask very much of all of us.  When you are at Mass, please be sure that your child/ren is/are behaving.  All children from Kindergarten to Grade Eight behave and pay attention very well during class Masses.  Please be sure that your child/ren behaves and pays attention during Mass when they are with you.  Do not talk to them during Mass.  They should not have food, books, or toys with them.  They should be paying attention.  Remember that parents are the first and primary educators of their children.  We, as educators at St. Dorothy School, cooperate with you in accomplishing this great responsibility.  Together as a team, we will help them grow in all areas: religious, intellectual, psychological, emotional, social, aesthetic, ecological, physical, and Christian service.

BISHOP AMAT MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE EXPLORATION

Bishop Amat has a day of science exploration, travel through the science labs and meet Bishop Amat’s science teachers for students in grades 7 and 8.  Participate in exciting hands on experiments such as collecting your DNA, CSI investigations, a physics lab and more!  It is Saturday, October 23^rd from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Bishop Amat Memorial High School.   To register, email the following information to Ms. Katarina Gomez, biology teacher, at kgomez@bishopamat.org, student name, grade, school, and school contact (teacher of principal).  Students will be provided a sack lunch.

 JUNIOR LANCER CHOIR/BISHOP AMAT – OPEN ENROLLMENT

The choral music department at Bishop Amat High School is having an open enrollment for all 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade students interested in joining their choir.  Please contact Mrs. Jennifer Srisamai at jsrisamai@bishopamat.org for more information before October 27.  Space is limited.

A Stater Bros. “In Store Savings Guide” is available in the office.  It has 4 weeks of valuable savings!  The effective date is October 6^th through November 2^nd.  Please consider some of these products for the Student Council Food Drive during the week of November 15^th -19^th.   We will be asking for tuna, juices, oil, crackers, baby food, pancake mix, syrup, jelly, jam, peanut butter, and beans.  Purchase your Stater Bros. scrip cards and receive your 6% profit for your scrip commitment.

If anyone needs help with scrip or has questions about scrip, please feel free to contact Dorothy Marquez or Carol Burke at the school office.

GREAT NEWS!  We have VONS GIFT CARDS in our scrip box!!!  Take advantage of the Vons card because you will get credit for 4% profit and if you are registered as an Escrip supporter, you will receive the added percentage from the Vons Company. 

If you are not signed up for Escrip or you need help to reregister for Escrip, please call Dorothy Marquez at school, extension 214.   Remember to re-register your Von Escrip and Ralph cards or your purchases will not get counted.  You no longer need to save Ralph’s receipts but you must be registered.

A Great Lakes Scrip percentage update is available for viewing in the office.  Please check it weekly for changes.  Visa Cards have returned in $25 and $100 denominations.

REBATES AND MERCHANDISE FOR THE SCHOOL

The following are stores or programs that earn rebate money or merchandise for the school:

1.    BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – This program runs continuously.  Please save and bring your Box Tops to Flag Salute.
