6th, 7th, AND 8th GRADE PARENTS – IMMUNIZATION UPDATES NEEDED NOW!

Assembly Bill 354, now chaptered into California law, requires students to be immunized against pertussis (whooping cough).  For the 2011-2012 school year, ALL students entering grades 7 through 12 will need to show proof of a Tdap booster before starting school.  This requirement begins July 1, 2011 and can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine on/after the student’s 10th birthday.

If your child is 10 years or older and has not received the Tdap pertussis booster shot, please contact your doctor or health department.  Please provide the school with the most recent copy of your child’s immunization record.

St. Dorothy School must receive proof of immunization by July 8, 2011.  Students who have not met this requirement by that date will be excluded from school per state law.  Eighth grade students should meet this requirement prior to graduation so that the records can be forwarded on to the high schools.

Please contact Christine Lynch at school, ext 203 for any questions.

HOMELESS SHELTER – Sign up and earn your school hours!

The St. Dorothy Homeless Shelter runs from December 17, 2010 through January 2, 2011.  We are accepting donations of used clothing.  We are looking for the following items only:  jackets, coats, sweaters, t-shirts, pants, blankets, shoes and backpacks.  Items should be for men and women only.  No items are needed for children.  The items should be clean and free from stains and holes.

Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute these items to the homeless. A sign up sheet is posted in the office.  There are evening and weekend hours for parents who work.  If you have questions, please contact Dean or Gina Butz at (626) 914-9172.

SCHOOL BOARD MARKETING COMMITTEE

In early 2011, we are planning to introduce a monthly St. Dorothy Bruin Newsletter to be distributed to all the parish and school families.  This newsletter will tell about all the exciting happenings and upcoming events at our school.  It is our goal to make this as professional as possible.  Thus, we are looking for some parent volunteers with a background in graphic art industry and a family in the printing business that can help us to keep the cost to a minimum.  If you can help in either of these areas, please contact Terry Kent at tkent91741@aol.com or cell phone number (626) 755-3098.  Thank you in advance for your help.

DID YOU KNOW    Safety tips for parents traveling with children                  Traveling with kids during the holidays can be a challenge, especially with the added worry of safety thrown into the mix. Here are some suggestions parents can use to help ensure their children’s safety while traveling:

  1. Prior to leaving on your holiday, remind children about your family safety procedures for dealing with strangers and what to do if they get lost.
  2. Keep a recent photo of children handy, also a photocopy of passports kept in a safe place or with a relative that can fax it to you in case of loss.
  3. If you label children’s clothing, make sure the label is inside so strangers are not able to learn child’s name.

For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at 213 637 7650.
