Academic Procedure
To remain at St. Dorothy School, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress.  This means that a student performs at a level which is the very best that he/she can do and progresses at a rate comparable to his grade.  If a student continues to neglect his/her academic studies, it will result in a meeting with the principal, teacher(s), and parent(s). When a student has a good attendance record, shows good effort, and turns in all his assignments; he/she will not receive a failing grade.

The decision to promote a student to the next grade or to retain him/her in the present grade should be based upon a consideration of the overall welfare of the student.  This decision is made by carefully weighing academic, emotional, and social factors.

Before/After School Care Program
The Before/After School Care Program is planned to provide a safe, professionally supervised program for children before/after school hours.  Students attending St. Dorothy School from K-8th grade are eligible to attend the program.  All students will be enrolled in after school day care, whether or not you plan on using it.  This is for emergency purposes.  Students who would like to watch a sporting event without an adult present with them must check in with Day Care.  After the event ends they must return to Day Care where parents must pick up the student(s).  The fee for this is $10.00 per student.

Failure of students to comply with the rules and discipline requirements of the program will result in the denial of the right to participate.

The Before School Care Program will operate on all days that school is in session from 6:30 a.m. until school commences.  The After School Care Program will operate most days that school is in session from the time of dismissal until 6:00 p.m.

A list of names of adults who might pick up your child/ren must be given to Day Care and it will be kept on file. The School Day Care Program phone number (626) 335-0772 ext. 225.

Field Trips
Field trips are to be of an educational or cultural value and directly related to the curriculum.  Field trips are privileges and students can be denied participation if they have failed to meet behavioral or academic requirements. The P.T.O. will provide funding for bus transportation for one field trip in each class.  Field trips are scheduled at the discretion of the teacher and principal.  A permission slip is sent home for each class field trip and must be signed by the parent.  No child may go on a field trip without this permission slip.  We can only accept the official school written permission slip.  ABSOLUTELY NO PHONE PERMISSION IS ALLOWED.
