Altar Serving
We highly encourage students in 4th grade and above who have received both the sacraments of baptism and the eucharist to participate in the ministry of Altar Serving at both our school and parish masses. The guidelines for Altar Servers within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles states...
“The Altar Server is a member of the assembly who assists the priest and deacon during the Eucharist and other liturgical ceremonies so that the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence. Servers should be active and full participants in the celebration with the understanding that they are first and foremost members of the assembly. The server expresses this by singing, praying and keeping silence along with the rest of the assembly.”
Participating in a liturgical ministry such as Altar Serving is highly recommended as it enriches the faith life of our students and encourages them in living out our mission to educate students in the ways of Christian service. In addition to Altar Serving, students are also given regular opportunities to participate in other liturgical ministries such as serving as Lectors and Cantors at our weekly school masses and monthly family masses throughout the year.
